Port of Moerdijk
Giving entrepreneurs control over safety
The Port of Moerdijk is a complex environment, home to many different companies and subject to strict safety standards. For Port of Moerdijk, the challenge was not only to safeguard regulations, but to enable companies in the area to actively contribute to a safe environment themselves.
Safety needed to become not something owned solely by the port authority, but something all companies could see, share, and act on in their daily practice.
The behavioural question
What needed to change?
Companies should not only be aware of safety rules or comply with them, but actively act when situations arise. Identifying risks, sharing information, and having immediate access to the right data. Without barriers.
Our approach
Based on this behavioural question, we developed the concept: “Safety at Port of Moerdijk is in your hands.” The premise was simple: if you provide companies with the right tools, safe behaviour becomes more concrete and accessible. Safety stops being an abstract concept and becomes something you can act on directly.
We translated this concept into an app proposition. For this app, we developed not only the concept and design, but also a clear name: Port Alert Moerdijk. A name that literally reflects what the app does and what it represents: with this app, safety is truly in your hands.
Communication thus became not an explanation about safety, but an instrument to enable behaviour.
- report unsafe situations
- share alerts and information
- quickly access relevant safety data
What this set in motion
Safety shifted from being a system to a shared practice. Companies were given a tangible tool to take responsibility and collectively contribute to a safer port area. Not through control, but through ownership.
