Plant-Based Focus on the West Brabant Region
In the so-called Regional Deals, the government and regions collaborate on broad prosperity, focusing on aspects like security, trust, and a healthy living environment. The detailed allocation of funds is thoroughly outlined in the Regional Deal application.
RWB, representing West Brabant, has submitted a Regional Deal request to the government for support in achieving broad prosperity. This initiative aims to enhance the region’s growth as a plant-based hub. West Brabant boasts a unique plant-based identity, historically known for providing food and plant-based resources. Coupled with the region’s immense innovative capacity and entrepreneurial spirit, this focus offers incredible future potential.
To stand out among the other applications, you need to be visible and memorable. It has to be more than just a well-structured report; ideally, it should have a strong connection to the heritage. So, at the request of RWB, we hit the ground running.
Vincent van Gogh recognized centuries ago how deeply intertwined humans and plants are in West Brabant, inspiring many others in the process. We invited Breda-based artist Daan van Bommel to capture this symbolism—how humanity and nature merge here—not by looking back but by moving forward. Because together, we thrive. However, there was one crucial condition: the artwork had to be 100% plant-based as well.
The result? A one-of-a-kind screen print! Created in a very limited edition, using paint made from red cabbage sourced from Brabant soil, citric acid, and soda as a natural alkaline base for a vibrant color gradient, all printed on paper made from tomato plants.
A piece of art that captures the essence of the region and its future in a unique image. Now that’s storytelling!
